Notes

Nobody remembers acquiring H‑6. It is in the catalogue, in a hand nobody recognises, and it is in Jar No. 6 every Thursday. On the other six days the jar is empty, and the lid is still on.

Dr. Mbeki-Lowe, the Institute’s specialist in Thursdays, has noticed something about H‑6 and H‑7 that he will only describe as “arithmetically convenient.” He has been asked to write it up. He says he will, on a day that suits.

Observation log

  • Every Thursday Present. Measured at seven inches. Took no interest in the ruler.
  • Every other day Absent. Lid on. Jar warm.
  • 2024 Jar Preference Survey: “Declined, firmly.” The firmness was in the pencil pressure. It went through the paper.
